“I created this work toward the beginning of when I realized I had an addictive personality, while on a trip in San Diego in 2018. It reminds me of learning how to swim as a kid, being isolated, and overcoming certain traits while feeling like I’m not able to catch my breath. Many times a drowning sensation would overcome me when I first began to address my defects. Remembering that if I wait a moment, those feelings will pass and I’ll be able to clearly face my underlying fears or frustrations has been part of the healing process.” – Rich Beckermeyer
