Sunflower Bean by Ruby June

Sunflower Bean, a psychedelic rock group from Brooklyn, is releasing a new album this February. The trio of under twenty-one-year-olds: Julia Cumming, Jacob Faber and Nick Kivlen, have been together since 2013. Their music consists of Cumming’s ethereal singing mixed with grounding cadence from the bass and Faber’s drums. Adding to this is Kivlen’s infectious guitar riffs and unique voice add another layer of dreaminess. The band expertly incorporates digital effects into their music that gives a sense of lucidity and modernity.

Their audience stretches across the world, reflected by their upcoming tours in Europe and show all over the U.S. But this band didn’t just fall in rabbit hole and exit out into fame. Sunflower Bean has played over 100 shows in the past year, put out two fantastic EPs in 2015, and are soon releasing their newest album, Human Ceremony.

Already the band has released two singles from their new albums. On February 5th, the rest of Human Ceremony will be dropped. The songs released from Human Ceremony, ‘Easier Said’ and ‘Wall Watcher’ give promise for the new album, showing signs of maturity and comforting truth in their music with lyrics like “I’m not scared/To take the blame/It’s not your fault/And that’s okay”. With what’s been released, the rest of Human Ceremony will certainly be something to celebrate over.

Keep tabs on Sunflower Bean, for they’re rocking hard and are showing no signs of stopping.
