Capital Stage completes its ninth season, THE HOMEFRONT: A Season of Soul-Stirring Plays, with MAPLE & VINE by Jordan Harrison. After premiering in the 2011 Humana Festival at Actors Theatre of Louisville, MAPLE & VINE ran Off Broadway at Playwrights Horizons. Capital Stage’s production will be directed by Co-Founder and Artistic Associate Peter Mohrmann, and will run from June 18 through July 20, 2014, with a press opening on Saturday June 21, 2014.
THE PLAY
Katha and Ryu have become allergic to their 21st-century lives. After they meet a charismatic man from a community of 1950s re-enactors, they forsake cell phones and sushi for cigarettes and Tupperware parties. In this compulsively authentic world, Katha and Ryu are surprised by what their new neighbors – and they themselves – are willing to sacrifice for happiness. Exploring feminism, racisim, homophobia and marital strife, 1950s conformity may not differ much from 2014.
