Mondavi Center Announces 2013–14 Season

Season Kicks Off With Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club September 21

  

DAVIS, CALIF.The Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, UC Davis announces a new season filled with returning favorites like the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, long awaited debuts fromEmmylou Harris and The King’s Singers and new ways to experience the center like VST Visions. The 2013–14 Season opens on Saturday, September 21 with the return of the Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club®. Subscriptions go on sale Monday, April 15. “We move proudly into our second decade with a 2013-14 season that will feature groundbreaking presentations, leading artists in return engagements and debut appearances by some of the most iconic artists and ensembles in the performing arts.” said Mondavi Center Executive Director Don Roth.

 

The new season includes 68 programs and 103 performances by some of the world’s finest orchestras and soloists, an international range of dance companies, three generations of jazz superstars, intimate theater experiences and wildly entertaining circus spectacle. Other artists making their Mondavi Center debuts include jazz pianist Ahmad Jamal, actress and speaker Laura Dern and the full orchestra of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields led for the first time by music director Joshua Bell. More returning favorites include the Brazilian dance company Grupo Corpo, the Alexander String Quartet performing Bartók and Kodály and the American Bach Soloists featuring its holiday choral favorite Messiah.

 

The season offers several once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Pianist Steward Goodyear will perform a marathon of the Complete Beethoven Sonatas on October 5 (all 32 sonatas in one day, from memory). The Salzburg Marionette Theater, celebrating its 100th anniversary, brings grand opera and musicals—on strings—in a four-day visit, November 7–10. Jumping to other side of the Alps, Compagnia T.P.O. will take audiences young and old on a guided journey through the Mediterranean Sea with their newest immersive productionBleu!, April 4–5.

 

The expansive and robust season spreads across 18 different series in the genres of music, dance, speakers and film. Patrons may subscribe to any one or more series or design their own package. Most series contain three events; the Choose-Your-Own package is a minimum of five events in any series.

 

Subscribing allows patrons substantial savings off regular ticket prices. Series subscribers keep the same seat for each show in the series. Additionally, all subscribers are seated before single tickets go on sale, providing subscribers with the best possible seating.

 

Series subscribers receive a 20% discount off regular ticket prices and an additional 15% off additional ticket purchases throughout the season. Choose-Your-Own subscribers save 15% and continue to save 10% throughout the season. In addition to securing the lowest ticket prices, subscribers are allowed free ticket exchanges and the opportunity to purchase tickets to shows added throughout the season before ticket sales open to the public.

 

Subscriptions can be purchased at mondaviarts.org, in person or by calling the Mondavi Center Ticket Office at 530.754.5424. The Ticket Office is open Monday–Saturday noon–6 p.m.

 

To receive one-on-one assistance with ordering subscriptions, the Mondavi Center is hosting an open house on Saturday, April 27from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Mondavi Center’s Yocha Dehe Grand Lobby. Refreshments will be provided, and Mondavi Center staff members will be on hand to help with orders.

 

The deadline for current subscribers to renew their tickets is May 31. Single tickets go on sale August 9.
