Being alive allows us all to experience life’s magical little moments that are unique to our own realities. Capturing and sharing this has become easier with the development of social media and file sharing engines. However, capturing imagery from the imagination is a tale of its own.
In the plains of creation, James R. Murlin is no stranger. Self taught and fueled with a strong desire to expand his talents, James has experimented  with a multitude of mediums, exploring, pushing beyond, and  reaching new heights of expression. Dipping his hands in the artist cookie jar (so to speak), James has fearlessly taken it upon himself to understand and use an assortment of tools. From colored pencils to acrylics, pen, ink and oil work, the art of James Murlin has taken a “no-holds-barred” approach. After spending much of his life in the Lake Tahoe region, James developed a strong sense of human connection with the natural world, later becoming evident in his works.
James draws inspiration from artists such as Luis Royo, H.R. Giger and Olga Noes, artists known around the globe for their unique blend of science fiction and fantasy and their portrayal of dark and wondrous worlds. The influence of these master artist’s run deep within the foundations of James creations, while leaving his signature mark behind. James is unafraid of trying different stylistic approaches from various ages in the art world,. Impressionism, realism, abstract, contemporary, and even graphic arts, are among the arsenal of studies taken to the canvas and practiced. Versatility and desire are synonymous with the brushes and pens that are shaping James Murlin’s works.
Through much work and perseverance, the roads are now paved to take his work the public! His first show took place last month at the Playa Dust Academy studio in Downtown Sacramento. James is ready to reveal a whole new ensemble to the masses at the  April 13th Second Saturday event, to be followed shortly as a featured artist at the April 17th RAW artist event at District 30!
